Bill Dorrance's legacy of horse handling and riding through Feel & Release continues -- and, now, you can be a part of it!

If you are a horse trainer and have reached an impasse with a client's horse, this is a good opportunity to break the cycle. Horse trainers from many countries, representing many disciplines have sought out Leslie's help and successfully re-launched their careers in an exciting new direction.  After incorporating feel & release into their approach to handling and riding horses, many trainers and coaches have reached their goals quickly; more than a few even exceeded their expectations of the horses they work with and now want to become apprentices to further advance their capacity for reading horses accurately, and retaining the natural lightness that horses have as youngsters.

This approach was advocated by master horseman Bill Dorrance and is the subject of the classic training manual, "True Horsemanship Through Feel”, that  Leslie co-authored and published in 1999.

WHAT IS THE DEMONSTRATION  FORMAT?

During each of the two 90-minute demonstrations Leslie will assess the horse and also coach the trainer/owner one-on-one in whatever exercises or maneuvers will help the team to become clear, or advance to the next level, if appropriate.  (Note: On a case by case basis, Leslie reserves the right to determine if a public environment is the appropriate situation for every each individual to participate in the work she is doing with his/her horse.)

A horse need not be particularly troubled to enroll in this class. Leslie does, however, accept difficult young horses, and frightened / confused horses of any age or breed. All riding styles are welcome.

Please schedule time for your May 1st  demonstration horse spot, or your class May 2nd  – 4th  through the clinic sponsor, Heather Barklow. (Contact details for Heather are at the top of the page.)

Your Questionnaires and ALL RELEASES must be received by the sponsor on or before April 1, 2014. Thank you!

WHAT ELSE WILL AUDITORS and RIDERS LEARN?

In this clinic you will learn the foundation -- philosophy, techniques and angles/position -- necessary to lighten up your hands, position your upper body and legs while you ride. You will learn what Bill Dorrance showed Leslie about refining the presentation to the horse using feel & release on the ground and from the saddle, too.

After this, you will know were the feet are, how to replace them, and be able to adjust your horse's head, neck, shoulders, rips, loin and hips  . . .  all this with lighter hands as you refine your new skills on the ground and in mounted work, too.

You will learn how to set your horse up to succeed so that few if any corrections are needed. For some people this is a revolutionary concept. For others, it is an idea that was suspected to have validity all along, but the best route to accomplish that illusive task was not known or, easily managed. Leslie will explain these details and demonstrate the approach thoroughly on DEMO NIGHT, May 1st.   Come and join us, this will be a fantastic opportunity to learn. If you know someone who has issues with their horse, cannot seem to advance beyond the trouble spot, bring them along to the demonstration. Leslie is always happy to answer questions and discuss things with people who have not been to audit a clinic, or brought a horse to someone for help when they reached an impasse.

IMPORTANT NOTE FOR ALL RIDERS:

Outfitting saddles with safety stirrups has been a strong recommendation for my students since the 1990s. This year, a breakaway stirrup is required on all saddles and helmets must be worn. There are many varieties and brands to choose from online. English versions are to be found at any well stocked tack shop. My preference for western saddles is a stirrup manufactured by the McCoy family's STI from Laurel, Montana. Their website can be found here, or researched later on for the custom size and style you need at www.breakawaystirrups.com.

Not an online shopper? No worries! Contact them directly by calling 888-308-0848 and request a brochure!  When you get in a bind, you and the people who care about you will be thrilled that you did!
