Horsemanship Through Feel & Release is the method Bill Dorrance showed Leslie during the last years of his life. This approach to coaching riders and training horses -- both on the ground and under saddle -- does not require special equipment or the use of fear or force to obtain amazing, and very useful results for all breeds and riding styles.
Private instruction on the ground, mounted, or both -- open to riders at the Foundation Level and up.
Bill Dorrance's legacy of horse handling and riding through Feel & Release continues -- and, now, you can be a part of it!
If you are a horse trainer and have reached an impasse with a client's horse, this is a good opportunity to break the cycle. Trainers in many countries, representing many disciplines have taken Leslie's help and successfully re-launched their careers into an exciting new direction and reached their goals using feel & release. Master horseman Bill Dorrance used and taught this approach, which he passed on to Leslie Desmond. Since the completion of her apprenticeship with Bill Dorrance, and the publication of their classic training manual, "True Horsemanship Through Feel" (1999), Leslie has shared the knowledge and passed on Bill's techniques to her own students.
A horse need not be particularly troubled to enroll in this class. Leslie does, however, accept difficult horses, young horses, and frightened / confused horses of any age or breed. If you plan to bring a stallion, call Leslie directly. 602 228 7612.
All others please schedule your demo horse’s spaces through the clinic sponsor, Shawna Dahl.
Your Questionnaires and ALL RELEASES must be received by the sponsor at least 30 days prior to the event. Thank you!
In this clinic you will learn the foundation -- philosophy, techniques and angles/position -- necessary to lighten up your hands, position your upper body and legs, and refine your presentation to your horse using feel & release. You will see what Bill Dorrance showed Leslie about refining the presentation to the horse using feel & release. After this, you will know were the feet are, how to replace them, and be able to adjust your horse's head, neck, shoulders, rips, loin and hips . . . all this with lighter hands as you refine your new skills on the ground and in mounted work, too.

IMPORTANT NOTE FOR ALL RIDERS:
Outfitting saddles with safety stirrups has been a strong recommendation for my students since the 1990s. This year, a breakaway stirrup is required on all saddles and helmets must be worn. There are many varieties and brands to choose from online. English versions are to be found at any well stocked tack shop. My preference for western saddles is a stirrup manufactured by the McCoy family's STI from Laurel, Montana. Their website can be found here, or researched later on for the custom size and style you need at www.breakawaystirrups.com.
Not an online shopper? No worries! Contact them directly by calling 888-308-0848 and request a brochure! When you get in a bind, you and the people who care about you will be thrilled that you did!
Priority is given to riders who register for the entire clinic. Please do not complete any payment forms unless you have checked for space availability with Shawna Dahl and also completed the Questionnaire, photo release and liability waiver forms and submitted them. Video recordings are made of all classes. There is usually a waiting list for Leslie’s clinics so please let Shawna Dahl know if you are planning to ride in April. All the best, and thanks again for another terrific time at Krogh Ranch. Everyone did a splendid job!
